Most of us probably think of the ball dropping in Times Square when we think about New Year’s Eve, but that’s by no means the only place you can travel to welcome the New Year in.
Here are five other places where you can celebrate the New Year in style and see something a little different than Times Square revelers or your friends wearing lamp shades as hats.

1. Enjoy the Quiet at the Jersey Shore
Of course, the image of the Jersey Shore was been indelibly marked by the adventures of the self  anointed “guidos” and “guidettes” of the MTV reality show, but the shore in winter is a whole different animal than the party packed beach it is in the summer. You can rent a place there in the winter and spend your New Year’s Eve in a kind of private world. This is an especially nice getaway for those looking for a little renewed romance for their New Year’s Eve.
2. Riverboats and Explosion in Prague
Prague, in the Czech Republic, is one of those places that are known for being other places. A huge number of movies are filmed there every year, requiring the ancient city to stand in for dozens of other cities. They also put on a heck of New Year’s Eve, where you can watch the fireworks and performances while sitting on a river boat sipping some fine liquor, all for a fraction the price you might spend in another city.
3. Hogmany in Scotland
Hogmanay means the last day of the year, and it’s a good enough reason for the Scots to get the party started. The customs vary from place to place in Scotland, but they’re always interesting, including fireball swinging and copious singing and dancing. If you like kilts and old traditions, then Hogmanay is the New Year’s Party for you. Scotland is the place where Auld Lang Syne was written, so you know they know how to do it right.
4. Take Run in Central Park
Of course, Times Square is by no means the only things to do in New York City if you want to spend New Year’s Eve there. You could, for example, do the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run in Central Park, where a party and DJ spinning tunes precede a four mile run at midnight. If you’re the athletic type or just want to get a head stated on your New Year’s resolution to lose weight, this might be just the right party for you.
5. On a Bus
Not a Greyhound or anything like that, which would probably be heavy on interesting and light on the fun. Instead, you can rent a party bus and take the party with you, picking up friends and family as you go. Most of these buses are way better equipped than your house for a party, making this an excellent choice for folks who want to spend New Year’s in their hometown and still have a great time ringing in the New Year.
