Vietnam possibly has the craziest traffic in the world. With one of the world’s highest population densities of over 86,116,560 people living in a country that is smaller then the State of New Mexico there’s bound to be some crazy traffic problems. Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon alone has a total of 6,650,942 people with over 4 million motorbikes all jammed up into a tiny city.

On a more serious note traffic congestion has become a major concern in Vietnam and is believe to get even worse with the hundred and thousands of cars being introduced annually to major cities like Hanoi and Saigon. Limited traffic safety education, lack of awareness for the use of helmets, and poor traffic laws have contributed to annual death tolls of over 12,000 each year. In addition, approximately 30,000 more suffer from brain damage sustained in traffic accidents.

Despite all of this, people are still taking to the road in ever-greater number due to the rapid economic growth. Vietnam economic growth had among the highest in the world in the past decade. More jobs means more people in the streets, and more people in the streets means even crazier traffic. This is a serious problem for Vietnam and needs to get taken care of by the government right now. Vietnam is a beautiful country with lovely people and it break my heart me to see so many lovable people suffer from this problem. The government needs to put some of these traffic lights on the streets.
