Very Large Telescope HD Timelapse Footage

A couple of things I want to point out: at 1:10 into the video, you see the Milky Way rising majestically over the mountains, and you can see a faint, whitish glow stretching diagonally across the field of view, at an angle to the galaxy. That’s called the zodiacal light, and is caused by the reflection of sunlight by dust in the plane of our solar system. It’s probably due to eons of collisions grinding asteroids into dust; they tend to orbit the Sun in the same plane as the planets. It’s actually a disk of dust, but since we’re in it, we see it as a line across the sky. It’s pretty faint, and you need dark skies to spot it. Read more.

Business card with iris mechanism

This video is a demonstration of the Large and Small Iris cards made by Cardnetics. They are functional iris mechanisms similar to those seen in photography apertures and sci-fi shows built into a card.
The Small Iris is the size of a business card 2" x 3.5" and the Large Iris is the size of a typical greeting card 5" x 7"

Metropol Parasol - The World's Largest Wooden Structure

The Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain is the largest wooden structure in the world. Designed by J. Mayer H. Architects, the monumental structure provides shade for Roman ruins, a museum, and businesses below its canopy, while pedestrians can walk along rooftop promenades. Its size is 150 x 70 meters. Photos don’t do it justice–this aerial video of the Metropol Parasol at the end of the page by giraldatv gives a sense of its scale.

Parkour, also known as free-walking, is damn impressive to watch when done right. Videos on YouTube get tens of millions of views as free-walkers bravely leap between rooftops, over fences, along walls or up trees—anywhere two feet and a firm grip can get you. The goal is to get from one point to another in the most elegant way possible, even if that second point is 20 feet up a building facade, or blocked by errant construction materials.
Well, free-walking is not just for humans anymore. Meet Tret, the parkour dog. He is better at Parkour than most people. Watch him climb trees, do trick jumps, and leap from building to building like it’s an average day at the park. Two extra feet are a big asset it seems. That is one well trained animal.
